Rare Plant Spotted in the Yorkshire Wolds

The tassel stonewort has been found growing in lorry tracks near to the village of Thixendale high up in the Yorkshire Wolds in North Yorkshire.

The tassel stonewort is one of the rarest plants in the UK.

Martin Hammond who spotted the tassel stonewort believes that it is the most northerly in the UK.

Martin Hammond worked with North Yorkshire County Council  biodiversity department to secure funding to create a number of habitats ideally suited  to the tassel stonewort.

The ponds will be managed to ensure the survival of the tassel stonewort
