The Road to Thwing

The painting that Hockney created in this location was called ‘The Road to Thwing‘, Early Spring, 2006, Oil on Canvas, 6 parts overall size 188cm x 376cm

Hockney visited this location during 2006. On my visit, there had been a recent snow fall making the scene appear very different from the painting that the artist had done. Things that do not change however, so making recognition of the landscape easier are the positions of the trees and hedges.

It was in this same location that Hockney painted the painting ‘Harvesting Near The Road to Thwing‘, 2006 as part of the East Yorkshire Landscape Exhibition at La Louver. The painting was sold at Christies in New York in 2010 for $422,500 (Art Price)
