Fotherdale Farm Thixendale, Yorkshire, WILD OLYMPICS - The race is on to find Britain’s fastest and fittest creatures in an art show of Olympian proportions.

As athletes from around the world gather for the 2012 Olympics, an art gallery in Yorkshire will be hosting a very different kind of competition. Pitting the speed of peregrine falcon against brown hare and the agility of grey squirrel against blue tit, the exhibition will uncover nature’s winning athletes.

Artist Robert Fuller is known for highly-detailed paintings that celebrate the wonder of wildlife.

‘Wild Olympians’ runs from May 26th to June 10th at The Robert Fuller Gallery, Fotherdale Farm, Thixendale, Malton, North Yorkshire YO17 9LS (01759 368355) www.robertEfuller.com.

The scarecrows arrived in Wetwang in 2003. Our first scarecrow festival was conceived by the Village Hall Committee as a fundraising activity for the newly-erected Wetwang Village Community Hall and it has grown to become the village’s most important event of the year.It has become a well known and loved event in the region as well as attracting visitors from further afield.

Market Weighton celebrates the life of William Bradley who was born on 10th February 1787 in Market Weighton, one of thirteen children. John Bradley, his father, was a respectable master tailor. At birth William weighed 14lbs and at the age of 11 he weighed 11 stones. At 19 he weighed 27 stones and was 7ft 9ins in height. His stockings measured 3ft 9ins, his walking stick 5ft 10in and his shoes were 15ins long and 5.5ins wide.
